An interview has been released in which Real Madrid's new manager Jose Mourinho talks about the club's history and appeal, as well as his thoughts on Kylian Mbappe.
"Why did I come back? It's history. Real Madrid's history can't be compared to any other club," Mourinho said.
"There is something magical about the white shirt. Real Madrid's history is special. It's not just about the great players who wore it, it's about the club itself and the titles it won. Of course, there are difficult times and periods when you don't win as much as you would like. There are always times when you have to build and rebuild something. But it's in the DNA of Real Madrid. Today, Real Madrid is the best club in the world in many ways: socially, economically and sportingly. But in the end, when we talk about Real Madrid, we talk about our history and our footballing heritage."
Mourinho also mentioned Kylian Mbappé, who faced a lot of criticism last season.
"How do you manage a player like him? I have to see it with my own eyes. I have to understand the aspects that I don't know yet. Right now I only know what I read in the newspapers and what I see on TV. I need to know the players. This is not the time to say too much. It's important to stay calm, analyze, communicate, ask questions and build an honest and open dialogue."
He continued:
"My goal is to help the players get better, to help the team develop and to help the club get better. I'm there to help everyone. I'm not there to criticize, I'm not trying to force things. I'm there to listen. "The thing about Kylian Mbappe is that he's a great player and I want to help him become an even better player.
