Sometimes history repeats itself. Giovanni van Bronckhorst was announced as Feyenoord's manager for the second time on Thursday. He said he was taking office under markedly different circumstances than his last appointment in 2015.
"When I took over in 2015, we hadn't played in any European competition. This season we'll be in the Champions League, so that's great. The club has stepped up in terms of management, budget, everything. I'm taking over in completely different circumstances than 11 years ago," van Bronhorst said.

The reason he returned to his native Netherlands is clear. "I lived in a foreign country, away from my family. I had the chance to return to the Netherlands for such an important position, so I didn't hesitate. I do think about whether there are any risks in returning, but I don't want to think about losing the position I had once achieved."
It is still unclear whether former manager Dick Advocaat will remain at the club. For now, it is unlikely that Advocaat will play a supporting role, as he did during his first appointment.
``Dick is currently busy with the World Cup, so I don't know whether he will be involved with Feyenoord or not. I'm in constant contact with him, but it's hard to imagine him playing a support role for me right now,'' van Bronhorst said.
