Ishmael Saibari of Morocco scored a goal 70 seconds into the World Cup 2026 match against Scotland. The goal was the fastest of the tournament, and was a stunning effort against Scotland's Angus Gunn. Saibari's goal is the second fastest after Alphonso Davies' 68 seconds against Croatia at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. However, soon after, Paraguay's Matias Garza scored a goal in 64 seconds, breaking Saibari's record.
The fastest World Cup goal in history is 11 seconds, scored by Turkey's Hakan Šukur against South Korea in 2002, and it will be very difficult to beat that. Other players on the early scoring list include England's Bryan Robson, America's Clint Dempsey, North Korea's Park Seung-jin, and Denmark's Matthias Jorgensen.
Saibari also scored a great goal in the match against Brazil, and is expected to do well in this tournament. He also had a huge impact at the African Cup of Nations, leading Morocco to the final. Saibari, who currently plays for Eredivisie side PSV Eindhoven, has been linked with a move to Bayern Munich.
