Image Aston Villa have been fined €22.5m (£19.4m) by UEFA. This is due to a "serious breach" of the 2025 squad cost rules. Aston Villa will be restricted from registering new players for next season's Champions League. The bulk of the fine - €15m (£12.9m) - of which €12m (£10.3m) has been conditionally suspended and is conditional on the club continuing to significantly improve its squad cost ratio in 2026. This is a continuation of the pending penalties imposed on the club last summer. In July 2025, Aston Villa were fined €11m (£9.5m), with a further €15m (£12.9m) to be imposed within three years. Three other Premier League clubs have also been fined for breaching squad cost rules. Chelsea were fined €3m (£2.6m), of which €1m (£861,000) was suspended. Nottingham Forest were fined 2.5 million euros (2.2 million pounds) and Newcastle United were fined 3 million euros (2.6 million pounds). Newcastle have also agreed to be fined €10m (£8.6m) for breaches of UEFA's revenue standards. Of this, €7m (£6m) has been put on hold, subject to future compliance.
