England national team captain Harry Kane reflected on the World Cup 2026 finals first round match against DR Congo held on July 1st.
The match ended in a 2-1 victory for England.
Kane commented after the match:
"Honestly, it's an amazing feeling. It was an unbelievable game. They were a very strong team. After the first half, we played much better. There were a lot of great saves by the opposing goalkeeper. I said it was important for each person in the team to have their 'own star moment', and today it came to me. We just tried to 'be ourselves' over and over again. Of course, there are still things we can improve on. At this stage of a tournament, we just need to move on. It's important to keep going. It's not easy for any team to advance. We should be happy because we've advanced. We want to play again in four days. As was the case in the last match against Croatia, the influence of the substitute players is important. We know it's important. We think it's going to be difficult for them to stop us for 90 minutes. Everyone involved in today's win should be happy. Let's keep going like this."
